Quotes sometimes give us that little push forward. Whenever we find ourselves in search for some uplifting, we always turn to quotes. Quotes we love. Quotes for motivation. Quotes that affirm what we are feeling.

Part of being who you are has to do with feeling your feelings, which means you’ll have a wide range of emotions–not just constant sunshiny happiness.” – Janet Gonzalez-Mena

Child Development Quotes

“Stand aside for a while and leave room for learning, observe carefully what children do, and then, if you have understood well, perhaps teaching will be different from before.”   ~ Loris Malaguzzi

“The cornerstone of our experience, based on practice, theory, and research, is the image of the child as rich, strong, and powerful.  The emphasis is placed on seeing the children as unique subjects with rights rather than simply needs.  They have potential, plasticity, the desire to grow, curiosity, the ability to be amazed, and the desire to relate to other people and to communicate.”    ~ Carlina Rinaldi

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”  ~Anonymous

Quotes for Teachers

“…we have a special responsibility to use this knowledge – not to fill up journals, but to make the lives of these children better.” ~Edward Zigler~

“Reading is just one aspect of cognitive development and cognitive development is just one aspect of human development. A child’s curiosity and belief that he or she can succeed are just as important to reading as knowing the alphabet.” ~Edward Zigler~

I love your quotes page! This is such a lovely idea and you are right everyone likes a good quote. I like so many of these, I can imagine it would be hard to pick a favourite. I love the little cape crusader who is happy that teacher believed in her.

Here is one to add to your collection:
A child miseducated is a child lost.
    John F. Kennedy

I love your quotes page. I guess great minds do think alike. I will have to add a few more, not quite there yet, still trying to figure out how to do multiple quotes in on posting.

Hi Doris! Fantastic! I realized that making the extra page, you cannot “post” updates like on the blog, so if you want to add quotes to your “quotes” page, you have to edit it everytime to add more quotes! =)

Enjoyed reading the quotes from teachers, very inspirational and can get someone through a tough day I’m sure. I love Edward Ziegler words, very encouraging and yet true.

Nurturing the curiosity of children is hard work. Yet, ignoring the natural curiosity of children hinders their ability to learn. Therefore, encouraging curiosity keeps learning strong and children remain intensely conscious of what they don’t know and eager to find answers. I had an instructor that would always say, “ Curiosity is like a muscle: it atrophies without use.”

Hi Esthe, you know I loved your quotes page from before and you have managed to make it even better! Well done. I enjoyed the new additions. Lilian Katz and Janet Gonzalez Mena seem to have discovered the formula for reaching and understanding children. We have to be prepared to listen to them not just talk at the children because we think we know better.
Just because they are young doesn’t mean their ideas are pointless or without value. If we treat children like that we could do serious harm to their self esteem and self image.
Thanks for doing such a great job. You have inspired me to keep looking for great quotes to add to my own page! 🙂

Hello Esthe, you may not have realized this but you were my standard for designing my blog. From day one you have been an outstanding leader and motivator! Your site was beautiful from the start, offering a wealth of information and gave me something to aspire to. You were the first person to comment on my page and your words of encouragement have meant so much to me. Your attention to detail when completing assignments has been amazing. From our first weeks of ‘waiting for the light bulb’ to come on to maneuvering without thinking too much about it. I think you helped me to discover my light bulb and I am grateful for every comment and word of encouragement. I especially remember jumping like a little kid when you complemented my resources post! Though you always offered sincere and encouraging words, that time was different somehow. It may sound silly but getting your ‘seal of approval’ was an accomplishment for me. It felt like ‘wow, Esthe approves so I finally got it right!’ Thank you for being such a great colleague and please know that I think of you as a friend. I truly hope our interactions continue beyond this course. My very best wishes to you Esthe, you are a rare gem.
